ResponsibilitiesJOB SUMMARY:The person in this position is responsible for the coordination of activities that will promote, support, and educate new and expectant parents, Doctors Hospital of Laredo employees and the community about breastfeeding.They will actively participate in the patient education program for DHL Women's Center.JOB FUNCTIONS:Planning, teaching and evaluating breastfeeding classes for both expectant mothers and their families as well as for the staff at DHL and the communityPerforms bedside rounds daily for lactating mothers.Provides expertise in the lactation process to others having problems and /or complications.Participates in the communication and consultation regarding lactation and patient education within the DHL Women's Center.Actively participates and directs quality programs as needed.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Registered Nurse, graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred, licensed to practice in the State of Texas. Current certification as Lactation Counselor required, Consultant certification preferred.Good organization skills.BLS and NRP certified.Excellent oral and written communication skillsMust have the ability to come in if needed after hours or on weekends and be available by phone for consultatiComputer proficiency to include Windows based programs, Lotus notes, Powerpoint, word processing, spreadsheets and database.EEO StatementAll UHS subsidiaries are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and teammates.
