Job Title Veterans Affairs Coordinator Agency Texas A&M International University Department University Registrar (Records/Degree Audit) Proposed Minimum Salary $15.24 hourly Job Location Laredo, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description Job Summary The Veterans Affairs Coordinator, under direction, oversees the functions and operations of Veterans Affairs to ensure compliance with the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) and the State Approving Agency (SAA). Provides information and academic counseling to veterans and dependents of veterans concerning Veterans Administration Education benefits. Essential Duties and Responsibilities + Executes Veterans Administration (VA) certification processes. Advises veterans and veteran dependents regarding educational benefits. Advises veterans academically based upon VA and institutional regulations. + Provides information concerning financial aid and VA benefits. Maintains student files to track progress and report changes to the VA. Prepares and transmits electronic enrollment and certifications to VA via VAONCE. + Establishes and maintains cooperative and professional working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community agencies. Maintains proficiency and provides excellent customer service in areas of responsibility. + Determines eligibility of Hazelwood Act benefits. Monitor credit hours for students and provide data to other institutions. Provides benefits counseling and enhances the transition for military members. + Coordinates services with other University departments. Post tuition adjustments in the Banner Student Information System. Coordinates community outreach activities. + Interprets and evaluates information to oversee compliance with the Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) mandate, Mission Military Friendly. Adheres to Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) practices. Expands military-friendly services and programs on campus. + Secures annual approval for the University's designation as an approved facility to certify and train veterans. Prepares documentation for annual audits. + Supervises and trains VA student workers to provide quality customer service. Assists with counter coverage, answering of office phones, registration, graduation, and other office support duties. Additional Responsibilities + Supports the operations of records management while complying with federal, state, and university management retention policies. + Provides advising and examines academic records of Veteran students to determine progress towards degree and eligibility for graduation. + Disseminates information to Veteran students to include program admission criteria, course registration options, degree completion, and when needed, refers students to appropriate university offices for assistance. + Maintain accurate reports and databases on current and prospective Veteran student. + Assists with the general functions and activities of the Office of the University Registrar. + Participates in professional development opportunities. Education and Experience Required + Education - Bachelor's degree in applicable field from an accredited institution of higher education. + Experience - Two years of related experience in managing records, student programs, and/or working in information technology. + An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred Education and Experience + Experience in Higher Education Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of: + Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. + Veterans' benefits. Ability to: + Multitask and work cooperatively with others. + Communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding. + Work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. + Act as a positive role model. Preferred Knowledge and Abilities + Experience with Ellucian Banner, Degreeworks, and WebFocus. Licensing / Professional Certification - None. Physical Requirements - None.
