Job Title Associate Director Agency Texas A&M International University Department Office Of International Engagement Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location Laredo, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description The Associate Director, under general direction, assists the Director in all aspects of departmental operations and maintains responsibility for major functional unit(s) within a department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities + Serves as part of departmental leadership team. + Leads strategic planning for areas supervised and assists Director in developing and implementing overall departmental strategic plans. + Responsible for annual budget preparation and expense control for areas of responsibility and provides input into overall department budget. + Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate the success of areas of responsibility. + Assists Director in formulating and implementing policies and procedures. Supervises and directs staff and activities of project teams or functional areas. + Oversees the coordination of programs, ensuring program goals are consistent with departmental and University missions. + Serves on various University, division, and departmental committees and represents department at various State and National associations. + Ensures compliance with unit, department, University, and government standards, policies, and procedures. + Develops reports, analyses, and surveys for Director. + Completes special projects as requested by Director. Additional Responsibilities + Serve as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO) + Serve as main point of contact with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and supervise all non-immigrant visa and immigration SEVIS processes and services for international students enrolled at TAMIU on a F-1, F-3 and J-1 visa; + Advise international students on F-1, F-3, and J-1 visas to support compliance with SEVP regulations; such as visa adjustments, employment, travel, and re-entry into the country. + Train and supervise DSOs/AROs to assure ongoing competence and compliance with SEVP requirements; + Registers, coordinates and monitors all documentation and reporting regarding international students' information through SEVIS to ensure accuracy and compliance with DHS regulations. Supervise certification and re-certification processes under SEVP for F-1, F-3, and J-1 visas; + Research, interpret, and apply federal and institutional rules and policies to the specific situations of international students in F-1/F-3 or J-1 non-immigrant status. + Verifies documentation to determine eligibility for immigration documents. Prepares and issues immigration documents for students, scholars, and dependents. (e.g., I-20/DS20, OPT, CPT, extensions, reduced course loads, etc.) + Administers all aspects of immigration related student and scholar applications, which includes but is not limited to filing applications, petitions, extension, etc., following-up as necessary USCIS on application errors, delays, and inquiries, and compliance with USCIS requirements. + Plan and lead the international student arrival process and orientation, tend to all related issues each semester, and identify and oversee additional on-campus programming for international students that would benefit them while at TAMIU. + Prepare operational and statistical reports for government agencies, educational institutes, university leadership, and to support office objectives; + Provide training on new technology and systems + Establish and maintain relationships with key partners within and outside of the college. + Participate in committees, regional and national professional meetings in order to stay current with international student advising policies and practices. + Assist with study abroad programs and procedures + Participate as a passport agent + Organize and assist with international education organizations and programing + Supervise and train office student employees. + Assist with the management of social media platforms Minimum Requirements + Education Bachelors degree Social Sciences, Education, Business, Student Affairs, International Relations/Affairs, Art, Humanities, Communication or related field + Experience Eight years of related experience with a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience. + An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred Education and Experience + Masters in Education, International Education, Social Sciences, Business, Student Affairs, International Relations/Affairs, , Art, Humanities, Communication or related field. + Relevant experience in higher education + Experience in higher education software Ex: banner + Experience with immigration legislation, SEVP, and the SEVIS system, and eligibility to become a PDSO and RO according to DHS rules and regulations. Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of: + Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Ability to: + Multitask and work cooperatively with others. + Communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding. Preferred Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of: + Use of higher education software Ex: banner + Use of Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Ability to: + Interact with diverse populations Licensing / Professional Certification None.
